Bio
Tyaela Nieves is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker who got their start at NYU’s Experimental Theater Wing. Their work blends vivid, emotionally charged storytelling with a bold, theatrical sensibility—where the intimate meets the surreal, and everyday moments take on poetic depth. Rooted in their Afro-Latinx heritage and queer identity, Tyaela is drawn to stories that embrace contradiction, complexity, and the unexpected. They also hold a Master’s in Professional Writing from NYU SPS, further honing their approach to narrative. Always down to collaborate, they love connecting with other creatives to make bold, meaningful films.
Tyaela is currently a Teaching Artist at Ghetto Film School and is set to direct the pilot episode of the upcoming series “ill-advised” in spring of 2025.
